Youth Education

As part of the RNLI’s Mission Statement “To save Lives at Sea” and “End Preventable Loss of Life at Sea”

We have set up a Youth Education Programme. This involves having a team of Educational Volunteers all over the country who go into Schools and Youth Organisations to talk to children on Beach and Inland Water Safety. We have a team of Volunteers in Gloucestershire who can do Classroom Sessions, or Assembly’s. Our Volunteers create exciting and interactive sessions to stimulate and educate. They have dressing up equipment so children have a good understanding of the work of the RNLI.

Our presentations link directly to the National Curriculum under the umbrella of PHSE

We can tie into project work in other areas eg: “People Who Help Us” (The work of the RNLI), Science - Transport & Technology (Lifeboat
Technology/Lighthouses). History – (Grace Darling)

Our school visits are FREE and FREE Lesson Plans, Resources and Fun Activities are available on the RNLI Website:

If you would like further information or wish to book a visit, you may contact our local Education Liaison Volunteer – Fraser Gunn email:  Tel: 01531 890248   or contact the RNLI at our HQ at Poole by telephone 01202 336330 or via  RNLI Website

Our Beach Lifeguards assisted over 19,000 people last year so it’s most important that children are aware of the dangers and how to avoid them.

Some of the comments received from schools who have had a visit from an Educational Volunteers.
